On a still day the smoke does tend to sit in the air around this station, especially if the train is a while waiting there. This view was from the 'Black Lion' pub. Maybe on your next visit we can go there!

I showed this picture to some workmates today, and they all thought it was an old picture from the 1960's. I am so pleased that you have enjoyed it.

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Herb Riddle clubPraise from an expert like yourself means so much more to me, and is really appreciated.
This station is at the bottom of a steep valley, and the trains usually cross here, so on a busy day there is usually one of the trains hanging around for a while. Then, as on this day, if there is no wind, the whole valley gets full of (sometimes dirty) smoke. As you also spotted the shot is pretty well into the sun, coupled with being some distance away (zoom lens) means there is a lot of smoke between camera and locomotive. Add the whole lot together...
I'm sure you would love to come here and use your skills on this scene too!!
Best Wishes
Peter
This amazing picture makes me feel fully immersed in the fascinating atmosphere of this station, pervaded by the smoke of the locomotive, so brilliantly caught and composed in backlight!
Best wishes-Bea
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Beatrice Degan(MARS)As I said to Herb, this location does trap the smoke of a still day, then add a bit of sun, and it could be from any bygone age!
I am so happy that you like it!!!
Best Wishes
Peter
