Notre Dame, Paris

Uploaded on a very sad day. We know that nobody was hurt. Let us hope that all the Holy Relics are saved. We must also remember this is the most important week of the Christian year, and to loose this beautiful church at this time is so, so sad..
One piece of good news is that the Crown of Thorns was saved.. uk.yahoo.com/news/priest-rushed-into-notre-dame-to-save-crown-of-thorns-from-raging-inferno-174722412.html

Whatever religion people subscribe to, it is a disaster. Good news is that some things were saved..

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to SteThank you for your visit, and the very informative link. I have added another one above, with perhaps the best bit of news.. The Crown of Thorns was saved.
You can destroy a building, but you can't destroy a church..

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to DanielleThank you for your thoughts,, I have visited here a few times now, and it means so much more when you know the place. It will be rebuilt, maybe not in our lifetime, but it will rise again.
Merci pour vos pensées, je suis déjà venu ici plusieurs fois, et cela signifie beaucoup plus quand vous connaissez l'endroit. Il sera reconstruit, peut-être pas de notre vivant, mais il va remonter.
Meilleurs vœux

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Sarah O' clubThank you so much for your kind comment.
I don't know how much news you guys get over there, but according to latest news here it was 'an accident' and almost certainly to do with the renovation work.
The best news is that the Crown of Thorns is safe, as is the organ, and some other relics. Certainly worth a special thought this Friday.
As I said to Steve, "You can destroy a building, but you can't destroy a church.."
I have a few more picture of it in my 'France' album.. www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/album/930956

An excellent shot and a sad time for Paris. The only consolation is that no lives were lost.
I would think it will take a lot longer than 5 years to rebuild though...I would be happy to be wrong of course.
Best wishes, Rosa.
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Rosalyn HilborneThank you for your visit here. At the end of the day there is only material damage, for which we can all be thankful. I do agree with you though, while the church may re-open for religious services after a few years, it will take much longer to restore to full glory.
Best Wishes
Peter
