Does the gas lighting shown here function? Is there also electric lighting?
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to GrahamH clubThank you so much for your interest.
I spent a long time looking through my photos from here to try and find some evidence to answer your question. I saw no evidence of an electric lamp. The signal box is scheduled to work in the hours of darkness, so please draw your own conclusion!

I did think of stepping outside the box, but I have enough photos of this locomotive anyway, so I took the opportunity!
In fact it is only a small box, just a handful of levers to control the level crossing outside.

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to SteObviously nowhere near the size of the box in your picture. but it makes a different picture, and it was out of the rain!! I am glad you like it!!

What a great shot from inside the Box !!
It is an excellent composition with the lovely train outside , and the colourful levers and other elements, inside the box.
A big YS

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to gezginruh clubThank you so much for visiting this little signal box and station. I wanted something different, and since it was raining, anything scenic was not possible. We never visited this station in 2012, so now is our chance!
Love Peter

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Gudrun clubI am really pleased that you have enjoyed this. The box and station are very difficult to get to by car, so it is almost a place that time forgot... Well worth a visit if you are ever here. You might even get a cup of tea if you ask nicely!!
Best Wishes
Peter.
Now this is a viewpoint we don't often see! A superb view! I bet that's a whistling kettle!!
best wishes,
Rosa.
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Rosalyn HilborneI am glad you like the different viewpoint. It would have been so easy to step outside to photograph the train...
I haven't seen a whistling kettle for ages.. I used to have one in the old days. I have an idea I still have it somewhere. Unfortunately, in this case, non-whistling!!.

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Erhard Bernstein clubI remember that you were a signal engineer.. This box is about as simple as it can be. The brown lever in the middle is the lock for the gates. The red lever on each side is for the 'stop' signal just before the crossing (level with the front of the first carriage, just about visible behind the window frame), and the yellow/white is now not used. It used to be for a 'distant' signal, giving advance warning of the 'stop' signal. As there is only one track here, the other red lever is for trains going the opposite way, and obviously both can't be pulled together!
Another place for the pre Brexit visit!!
Best Wishes

Peter_Private_Box club has replied to Valfal clubThank you so much for your kind visit. I am so pleased that you enjoyed it. In a few days I can post a picture from the outside of the box, which will show you a little secret.. The box is so small that I could not take the picture inside! I stood outside the doorway, with the door open!
That does not detract from the two guys in there letting me come into the box, and take their photos.. Real nice gentlemen!
Best Wishes
Peter
