But in this case I noticed that it was not attached to the train which it should have been, so I went looking for it along the rest of the line. It had to be somewhere, and you can't easily hide a railway locomotive!

Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for visiting. The problem was the same as the day before, an overheated bearing (but not so bad). There was a big telephone conference with the crew and the controller to decide how to re-arrange the day, and the loco roster. They decided to let it miss one journey (putting the other locos on instead), by which time it would have cooled down enough to continue.

Root cause of the problem was a very slightly tight bearing following the overhaul, which will of course wear down fairly quickly (helped by large doses of oil).
