Strike Up The Band
George and Ira Gershwin composed the 1927 musical “Strike Up The Band” but it was anything but a success the first time around expect for the title tune “March From Strike Up The Band’. George Gershwin sat at the upright piano and played this version of “Strike Up The Band” during a later rehearsal. This clip is from a short movie posted on YouTube by Jack Gibbons.
In 1930 The (Victor) Arden – (Phil) Ohman Orchestra released “Strike Up The Band” with radio and vaudeville stars The Revelers aka The Singing Sophomores aka The Merrymakers (Franklyn Baur, Wilfred Glenn, Lewis James, Elliott Shaw and Ed Smalle) and reached number twelve on the charts.
