Come As You Are (Eighties)
British band Killing Joke (lead vocalist Jaz Coleman, Paul Ferguson, Paul Raven and Kevin Walker) released the 1984 LP “Night Time” and the lead single “Eighties” as written by the band. The group did complain about the similarities between “Eighties” and Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” where the chords are simply slowed. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana’s management were worried but nothing legally resulted.
This the demo of “Come As You Are” by Nirvana (lead singer Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Chris Novoselic) with Kurt using a bit of vibrato. The track is from the 2004 three c.d. box set “With The Lights Out” and the 1991 boombox demo.
The 1991 number one album “Nevermind” by Nirvana featured track three “Come As You Are” (Kurt Cobain). In 1992 this was the second single issued and it peaked at number nine in the United Kingdom, thirty-two on the Top One Hundred. A sign has since been erected in Kurt Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, Washington with the inscription “come as you are”.
