Gypsy Cried (The)

Lou Christie’s (Luigi Sacco) alternate version of “The Gypsy Cried” (Lugee Sacco – Twyla Herbert) with no backing vocals. Note the reference to co-writer Twyla at 1:23. Lou’s name was manufactured by the C&C Record label without input from the singer.

In 1962 “The Gypsy Cried” was written in less than a half-hour and took Lou Christie to a thirteen-week appearance on Billboard peaking at number twenty-four, higher on other national charts. In Canada the song reached number three. Classically trained musician, co-writer Twyla Herbert and Lou were friends for three decades until her death, although she was twenty years older than he.
