Home On The Range

Franklin D. Roosevelt's favourite song was "A Home On The Range" (Brewster Higley - Daniel Kelley - Clarence Harlan - Eugene Harlan - Virgie Harlan) aka "Oh Give Me A Home Where The Buffalo Roam". The song was based on an 1876 poem title "Western Home" by Dr. Bruce Higley. Daniel Kelley was a friend of the Doctor and wrote the melody. The tune was first recorded in 1927 by Vernon Dalhart (Marion Slaughter).

In 1933 Bing (Harry Lillis) Crosby's "Home On The Range" peaked at number eighteen on the charts even though the origins of the song were anything but clear at the time. Authorship is the subject of the 2017 PBS documentary.
