Thank you very much Jaap. I really like Oban and have taken a lot of pictures here over the years, but the sunshine really lifts the appearance of the place, although I suppose the same can be said for a lot of places.

Es sieht ein bisschen aus, wie eine Stierkampfarena in Andalusien ***

;-)). It is a rather grand looking folly but worth visiting. The rows of arched 'windows' give great views of Oban from the lofty height of it's position at the top of the hill. Inside there are gardens to be enjoyed, although it does get busy.

When we first visited we were delighted to see a little Scottish lady with her tartan cape and carrying a walking stick stopping at the entrance and beating her stick on the floor three times!!
Pure theatre - or maybe she was a McCaig descendant!!

We have had weeks where it has been sunny and dry, and others where the rain is so torrenial that you have spectacular waterfalls coming down off the mountains! They do say you can experience all seasons and weathers in one day, - so if you don't like what you are getting just wait a while and it will change!!

Yes we were very lucky with the weather that day. The water, caught in the sunlight seemed to soak up the colours

No this is a folly, a man made monument that John Stuart McCaig had built for his family and to keep local stonemasons in work. It is a very large open roofed tower with rows of arched 'windows' to allow views over all of Oban and surrounding area. Inside there are now gardens for people to enjoy. It certainly looks impressive though.

Thank you very much Rosa. It was a beautiful day, fortunately. The folly is impressive, the rows of arches look out giving lovely views of Oban and beyond. Inside there are gardens to enjoy. Yes it is popular, although not that well signposted. A lasting impression of our visit to the tower was the old lady dressed in tartan who stood at the entrance and banged her stick on the floor three times before she entered. Maybe she is paying some sort of tribute or perhaps invoking the spirits of her ancestors. It made quite an impression on us anyway!

Oban is a very nice little town where I went some years ago... I like this shot especially for his gorgeous water reflections!
