A real beauty this Carol. The composition is superb as is the light. Those large fluffy clouds provide a wonderful backdrop for the ridge and the undulations of the Quiraing. The level of detail is quite amazing, especially so when considering the distance from camera to the crofts and cottages of Digg in the far distance.

Thank you very much Doug and thank you for highlighting your holiday cottage. What a beautiful place to stay and you were there in 2019 too! Did you also have beautiful weather for your holiday? It is a beautiful part of Skye and I could spend a long time just watching the light and shadows moving across the Quiraing. When we visited last year they have put in parking for the Quiraing with very persistent parking attendants who make it nearly empossible to just stop for a quick photo. I guess it had to come.

Hello Carol. Yes it was a cracking cottage with great views over the bay and the sound towards the mainland. The weather for our visit in September was the usual Skye mix of rain and sunshine (with bonus rainbows). This did not spoil the holiday, as you well know you have to adapt your plans to suit the weather on Skye;-) I did not know about the parking for the Quiraing, as you say it had to come. I would be interested to know where they put it.

Hi Doug. Yes we know all about the weather on Skye!!! We have had our share of rain but on the other hand we have had some beautiful days. The bonus is that even if the weather is bad the skies tend to be moody and atmospheric, and the rainbows are lovely.

As far as the parking is concerned I think the same is happening at the Old Man of Storr. Both busy places so plenty of revenue to be had.

We were on our way back to the holiday cottage and went to take a quick photo but the over enthusiastic parking attendant was on us as soon as we arrived, actually running to get to the car!! We turned around and got some pictures from just down the road but we felt it was all a little unnecessary - the view belongs to everyone, and we had no intention of parking to walk the Quiraing.. Oh well, that is progress I guess!

Yes if their is a way to part you from your money a local council will find it! Scarborough is much the same. As the Quiraing car park is quite small, why not a grace period of say 10 mins for the visitor who just wants to take few pics and admire the view for a brief time. As the attendant is so energetic I'm sure he/she could keep tabs on things;-))

If they do the same at the Old Man it will probably be the first gold mine on Skye!!

Yes it is the same here and I like the idea of at least being given a few minutes to take a photo or two before being hounded out of the car park. It is strange really as we have found many places in Scotland where you are not charged at all to park. Maybe this is coming to an end also which would be sad, and you are right about the Old Man of Storr. I have seen a few rainbows over it but didn't think we were supposed to fill the pot at the end of the rainbow with gold!!

Maybe Nicola needs the money to fund independence!!
