A Crowden adventure

About 14 miles (22Km) from my home lies a very beautiful valley that starts of with a bit of woodland. On this rare blue sky day we thus make a beeline for it as a place we have not wandered for over a year now. I share a moment with you here just as the path turns downwards towards the river. Of course, once again its the golden leaves of Autumn with this light that is my main attraction. Spot the nesting-box.

Herb, this is such an outstanding image...it's just GREAT. Lovely balance, dappled light, the wonderful gate as another focal point...and I see the nest box too! :) You are such a talent and what fun to see your latest inspiration! :)
Thanks for the return visit to my pictures and the long comment! I'm really tickled that you spent the time to read my ramblings...I do go on! :D Glad you found it worth the effort. Loved what you had to say. Wow, you spent 18+ years using your travel trailer?! That's so awesome! Steve and I only just began our RV experience...we could afford to get our first one and then Steve could retire and finally we could devote time to this dream of ours to travel around the country in an RV. It took a lot of stars lining up but we took to it like ducks to water. Plenty of problems along the way across the board--including learning how to get along sometimes--and our first trailer actually suffered a catastrophic frame failure only a couple of weeks into our 5-week Vancouver Island trip. Not sure if you knew about that but that specter colored the rest of the trip negatively even though we got it fixed enough to complete our trip. Ended up getting the opportunity to trade in our last trailer towards the price of our new one and it was the perfect move. Our 365MB Avalanche is a monster for sure but if we really do want to swap our house for a full-time RV, it's the perfect choice.
I was totally on the same page as you regarding how stressful your 17ft trailer was going down long hills. Yeah, it's a total white-knuckler the moment you question your brakes and then you can't get that out of your head. We didn't have issues braking with our Grey Wolf but as time went on, we began to feel concern about the long view of things. Stepping up to a much heavier vehicle definitely meant an upgrade for the truck to do it right. You just cannot fool around with brakes and safety. Doesn't matter how big or small the rig, you must feel confidence!
Thanks too for your info about the beauty of the terrain in your neck of the woods and how it differs. Really sounds lovely and we hope to spend some time in the British Isles in a small caravan at some point and explore for some months. An adventure for down the road as we need to sort out what to do with our darling parrot. We meant to bring her to Canada with us on our big trip but at the last moment we learned that there was no way she'd be allowed in, no matter all the time and effort we put into getting documentation for her. Being without her for 6 weeks was HORRIBLE. In the end she was fine and had a great time while we were gone but we really missed her.
Also interesting to read about your busier roads--makes sense given the density of population. It really depends around here. Some places are very busy--national parks like Yellowstone are a perfect example. But you're right, the traffic in rural areas isn't really a thing for the most part.
Can I also inquire here, you say: 'Explored on 11/09/19; highest placement #1' - I presume you mean it was on the Ipernity Explore 'slide-show' but where or how did you get that #1 placement?
When you click on the "Explore" link at the top of the page, it brings you to the place where you see the slide show, but below the current picture information you'll see the words, "Among the photos recently added and that are popular..." Click on that and it will bring you to the Explore section and this is where you can see the actual order of picture based on popularity. If you come back to visit once in a while, you'll see the pictures moving around in rank. Also, contrary to the past, you may have only one of your pictures showing up on Explore at a time. Anyway, it's fun to keep track and see how an image does. :)
Thanks again for braving the waters of my endless wave of words! :)
Herb Riddle club has replied to Janet Brien clubFirst of all let me express my happiness that both you and Steve liked this so much. I have always stridden to capture light and I find that most beautiful in contre-jour forest scenes like this. Yesterday, when taking this, the whole thing came together.
I have to admit, that often I am put off by a lengthy description (and comment) that when I do take the trouble to read them completely I am most often very pleased that I did. My heartfelt comment after reading about your adventures touched a chord. I see now that you was holidaying on Vancouver Island. We have taken a trip to the Canadian Rockies with Vancouver too but did not get to the Island.
Thanks too for your answer to my question re Explorer. I had seen the additional pages of Explore but have never seen my own pictures there, no mater how popular I imagine them to be. Thanks for explaining the popularity rating hierarchy for me.
I look forward to reading more from you. ~ My Best Wishes, Herb
