great picture of this super detail, can you add as a PiP the whole camera?

Your wish is my command Ko. I have been in my cold consevatory to capture these two images for you. I had a feeling that someone would want to see them. I should have done them all at the same time perhaps. Notice the special Autographic pen and opening window at the back of the camera that allows a date or any other info to be scratched one the photographic film back hence displaying that on the finished negative and photo. A unique futuristic form of Exif here, well in front of its time. - Glad you liked this blast-from-the-past.

My pleasure Ko. As this original photo was only meant as my contribution to the latest 'Detail' CWP competition, I did not measure on taking and cataloging the whole. As it is though, I agree that adding the PiPs now completes the picture somewhat. Cheers again.

Hi Herb I liked the old days when we spent hours processing and printing in the dark I keep bringing my old camera's out to have another play. Like the setting's on the lense.

Thanks Toz. Two more PiPs added now, to complete the whole picture plus additional description text. Yes, I spent many an hour in my parents home with a board over the bath and the small window blacked out all in a red glow of the special red bulb. I could see how things were going when I had a go at colour development and printing -quite a different enclosed technique. I had a Russian Zorki & Zenith too, but I think I have given them away -must take a rummage. I am glad that your old equipment still brings you joy too. Good that you like the detail here.

What was it doing in the attic ???? you should have it on display, I have a Kodak 66 Md. II much newer and basic compared to that beauty, I have a Zenith I was given it the focal plane shutter needs repairing, also an Ensign box camera. Because of the huge amount of photos taken now they will never be as special as the old ones, just watch people with their phones the photos are just throw away items. Today a week old baby will have had hundreds of photos taken, not long ago it would probably been 5\6 in their lifetime usually very formal

Hi Peter. I did indeed have this on display for some years in a glass cabinet but it has lived in the attic now for some years too, with its many friends -not all photographic :) I must admit, that I have just had a search around for both my Zeneth-E and also the Zorki but alas I think I gave them both to my brothers many years back now. The shutter plane also went on the Zenith -just rotted away! Got to agree with you about the rest of the changes in photographic usage today, the biggest worry is that photos are no longer stored. Yes -put them all on Facebook - or Ipernity -they will be safe there for many many years -where have we heard that before -especially for us that belonged to Google's Panoramio. I still have real paper albums of my B&W photos, how will the modern parent show their history on their modern phones. Life today, it seems, is for today (only). ~ Never been to Bradford - let alone the museum (National Science and Media Museum formally the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television). Must correct that at some time as it is not a million miles from me here in Oldham.

A lot of the museum is aimed at children but it's worth visiting it was free when I went !!
I have seen the idea that important photos like family history should be printed using top quality inks and paper, the thought being as technology changes very few people will have the ability to read the various storage systems we use today, how many can read a floppy disc now

A fascinating little series Herb.............and quite different from your usual offerings! I love the amount of detail you've captured in each image, especially in this one! Camera's in those days were works of art in their own right I think!

Ah yes Keith. In actual fact I used to do quite a bit of close-up and even macro work but after a while I felt that i had satisfied my needs. I did this so I could enter it into our Ipernity CPW competition which this month is 'detail' of something bigger. It seems that I may have already won in your eyes. If only! The other two PiPs were put in after a request by Ko, above. Glad you enjoyed the series. ~ Herb

Thanks Leo. Yes a piece of 'Schmuckstück' indeed. I think this might have been unique with the idea of adding info like that onto the film itself. Of course it had to be Kodak's own special A-120 film.

Herb in the attic I would have thought pride of place in a glass cabinet along with the rest. a phone camera i would not put in the cabinet though not a camera worth thinking on but will be the death of a real camera soon. when you consider this and my own film camera they really do not make them like this any more. I think one of the totally fitting shots that you could take totally reminds us just how far we have come. I know my own father has quite a collection of camera's and would make a great display.

Thanks for this Steve. OK, have not put it back into my glass cabinet in my room here -pride of place again! My brothers still have my old Zenith and Zorki 4. Maybe I shall put my Canon AE1 in there too. Oh to have an old Hasselblad or Mamiya/Zenca Bronica camera to hand too. As you say, we have come a long way.

A great close up and I agree with all the comments above, Herb. Very glad to see the full item images too. Technology may have galloped along, but there's no beating the style of the old equipment - and I'm sure everyone would secretly wish their cameras had "ball bearing shutters". :-) As far as your discussion comment with Peter (above) about viewing images in the longer term, you may find my article here interesting: www.ipernity.com/blog/tiabunna/4438990 .
