Hopeful...........but disappointed!

Hopeful...........but disappointed!
During a recent visit to Victoria Park in Southsea, I couldn't resist taking a photo of this gull..........it was standing on the table next to where my wife and I and a a friend were sitting, having a coffee and a chat, just staring at us.

It obviously thought we had food, but we didn't.............and even if we had, it was still going to be disappointed :-)))

trester88, Jean Paul Capdeville, Berny, Jean-luc Drouin and 18 other people have particularly liked this photo

They learn very early in life that it's easier to scrounge than to catch!,
A nice portrait, Keith, but it looks to have stood still for you

They do indeed mate........and can get very aggressive as well. I've seen them dive-bombing people to get their fish and chips!

Glad you like this shot.........and yes it posed very nicely for me!

Aw, the disappointed seagull, but it does them no favours to feed them....They get a bad press already. I notice he problem is not so bad in Weymouth on recent visits, but in Swanage they hung around the fish and chips shops in hope! I love his shot though and the detail is superb against the beautiful bokeh background.

Yes indeed............round here they can be a real nuisance and it annoys me that people feed them, despite many notices asking them not too.

Glad you like the shot Rosa.........and thank you.

The look really is priceless, you caught it perfectly! This gull has much to learn if it really was waiting for food, most gulls just swoop in and take what they want;-)

Keith Burton club has replied to Gudrun club
Ha, ha...........glad you like it Gudrun. It's look was very expressive.

Despite it's size, it's still a youngster judging by the plumage, so it will probably learn the more aggressive behaviour in due course.

Poor seagull, but your decision not to feed them is a good one.
What's offered to many wild animals living in human proximity rarely serves their specific needs.
Though, this extraordinary seagull portrait is anything but disappointing, Keith! :)

Thank you so much.............there are notices up asking people not to feed them, but they still do and then moan when they get aggressive and try to take food from people's hands.

Glad you like the photo though.........and thank you.
