Stansted Forest Fungi (+ PiPs)

A friend and I spent a few hours crawling around in Stansted Forest on a fungi hunt. We found quite a few, here are the first three.

Identifying fungi is notoriously difficult, and I can't find an ID for this one. I'd be grateful if anyone knows.

PiP No.1 is a Common Puffball.
PiP No.2 is a Porcelain Mushroom (I think).

Perfect fungi portraits, you caught fantastic detail in all three! I would have known only the 1st PiP, I can only tell that I wouldn't want to eat any of them though I think the puffballs are edible when very young.

Thank you Gudrun..........I'm pleased you like these so much. Fungi are really difficult to ID as they change their looks as they grow. Personally I wouldn't eat any fungi I found in the wild.

Crawling around certainly paid off with these superb pictures Keith. Your main shot is of a toadstool type that I see the most of, and it's beautifully taken. I have seen a few puffballs and your picture in PiP is excellent in detail and colour, but your 2nd PiP is absolutely superb! I can see how it got the name! I love the dark background and the light on its underneath parts. The wood (?) that it's on is beautifully shown with colours and textures.

Have a great new week and I look forward to seeing more fungi.

I paid for the crawling around when I tried to get out of bed this morning Rosa :-)). It was worth it though!

I'm really pleased you like these..........I got quite a few shots I was pleased with, so more to come yet. We cheated a bit with the second PiP, the mushroom was growing on a dead branch, so we lifted it up and balanced it on a fence post to save having to get on our knees :-)

Have a good week yourself. and thanks for your lovely comments.

Thanks Isabel. The one in the first PiP does look a bit like sea urchin: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/49553224
