Orcome Point View

Orcome Point View
The view from the top of the cliffs at Orcombe Point, Exmouth, Devon. Orcombe Point is the most westerly point of the Jurassic Coast. You can quite clearly see evidence of erosion caused by the wind and waves. Best view large, I think.

I got back from Devon yesterday afternoon after a very enjoyable week visiting family. The weather you see here was pretty typical of the week...........very cloudy at times with some sunshine, but hardly any rain.

I have a lot of catching up to do over the next few days, but I'll try to get to everyone, even if it just means leaving a star instead of commenting. I'm not going to stress over it :-)

I hope everyone has a good week.

Gudrun, trester88, Jörg, ROL/Photo and 25 other people have particularly liked this photo

Good to have you back Keith. Love this shot. Erosion is a big problem all along the Jurassic coast unfortunately. The people show the scale perfectly and the waves gently rolling to shore are beautiful.
Very pleased that you had a good time. Not worth stressing over after a good break ;-))

Thank you Rosa. It was a lovely visit, but it's always nice to get home again.

Glad you like this one...........despite the lack of sunshine I'm quite pleased with it myself. Thank you for the lovely comments.

(I was quite proud of myself for standing near the cliff edge to take the shot........but I only took one then moved back very. quickly)!

Love the red colour of the cliff in contrast with such green grass. Love the greyish weather too, but you know that.

Glad to see you back and its good that you had a good time. A nice view from up here Keith. I like the warm tones of the cliff edge here. The type of clouds that we see only too often.

Cheers. Herb

Beautifully atmospheric capture and fine detail, especially when viewed large,
The red sandstone is no match for the sea, sadly, as your image clearly shows,
Excellent image of land, sea and sky,

Good to read that you had an interesting week. The river estuary is attractive and this view of the cliff showing the erosion that looks recent is a very good way of giving a feel for the whole area.
I’ve not been down there for half a lifetime (mine) :-)

Keith Burton club has replied to Colin Ashcroft club
Thank you Colin..........we had a good week. I don't take too many photos when we're visiting family, which is just as well "cos the weather wasn't up to much. We get down there about 3 or 4 times a year nowadays.

Glad you like this one.........I used to walk there from my daughter's home quite regularly when I was on holiday, but I have to drive nowadays. Thanks for dropping in.

This reminds me of the eroding coast at Happisburgh in Norfolk. Parts of the beach are eroding so quickly and houses have fallen into the sea. The car park we first used in 2024 is no longer, and the local church and the lighthouse are getting nearer the sea year upon year.

Rock falls like this are fairly common all along the Jurassic Coast and a lot of other places apparently. I certainly wouldn't like to own anywhere along a cliff top near to the sea nowadays. Scary stuff!

I was quite nervous standing near the edge to take the shot and I didn't hang about long (I don't do heights very well).
