I have always been intrigued by the lichen. The two granite areas I know best are these mountains (very far inland and not in the least bit affected by maritime weather patterns) and Cornwall (similar granite but pounded by Atlantic gales). The lichen would appear to be exactly the same! I'll try and find a shot of each to show, for comparisons sake!

I've shown photos of this 'table' over the years, George - all from different angles, and it has led to many comments such as what would comprise my picnic hamper. The suggestions ranged from a whole roast suckling pig and a whole roast lamp to plenty of ice for the ice bucket for the obligatory champagne, to be carried up by liveried flunkeys, etc etc.
Me? I make do with a chicken leg, a hunk of cheese, a piece of fruit and about 3 litres of water!

Probably half my entire ipernity gallery is made up of photos taken in this Sierra, north of Madrid but as I haven't been there for over three years (a variety of reasons but mainly because of Covid and Long Covid), my uploads from there are getting fewer all the time. This is an incredible picture - those rocks look as if someone has put them down like that, but they do look as if they might topple over.
