Algete street scene no. 4

In the distance can be seen the Four Towers at the northern edge of Madrid (please feel free to open the note!)
And another flawless blue sky (and a rare wisp of cloud!)
The map says 'Asia Doner Kebab'. When I previously lived in Algete for a year (2010/11) there was a kebab shop here but it closed even as I was living here then. So Google maps aren't always completely up to date!
Sight and Sound; I used to like this band then forgot all about them.Something sparked me into listening again and yes, I like their funky style! www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJomeuoDFlI

No Google maps are definitely not up to date. They are still showing a car we sold
ages ago on the drive!
Have a good weekend.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Rosalyn HilborneAlgete is no more than a reaonably pleasant suburb with a few interesting corners and quite a few mundane areas as you would expect. I've got another two or three to post in this series then I think I should look for a Cornwall coastal shot and / or a granite mountain scene; not sure yet.. Decisions, decisions!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre clubI first came to Spain because my sister said to me, 'why not come to Madrid and teach English?) She had been living here in Algete (in a small flat since the early 1980s!) My job in England had fallen through and I was staying with my parents in Cornwall but I had to do something. So yes. I took a Tefl course in Truro College (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and moved to Spain. For the first year I stayed with my sister in Algete (my niece was away in Italy studying medicine so I had her room! AND her car - which was crucial because all my classes were in Madrid and there isn't a connection except by a very slow bus!. Then after a year, I found a flat in Madrid and then after another year my girlfriend found me a flat right in the centre. So I was fine until covid struck and decimated my classes (companies suddenly couldn't or wouldn't pay for English classes any more). And then I got a succession of ailments as you know! I couldn't pay my rent so my sister (who had in the meantime bought a big house in Algete) said I should move back with them which was the obvious move in the circumstances!
Sorry, not such a quick summary!
Andy Rodker club has replied to William Sutherland clubGreat that your sister was there, to help in your recovery. Hope things get back on track for you.
Have been to Spain a few times, passing through Madrid, and it is a great country. Especially liked the couple of Paradores we stayed in, such lovely architecture.
Lovely series of photos of Algete.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Gillian Everett clubI've stayed in a few paradors with my girlfriend when we have weekends away (not for a few years now for obvious reasons!) and, yes, some are sited in fabulous places, old castles, monasteries, royal hunting lodges, etc and the food has been uniformly excellent! Hopefully we will do this again as I recover!
All best wishes,
Andy
Wünsche noch ein schönes Wochenende, ganz liebe Grüße Güni :))
Joe,
Thank you both!
Haha, Google Maps... Never rely on them, they are too often out of date, sometimes showing roads as open which are closed;-)
Andy Rodker club has replied to Gudrun clubThe air was very clear because it wasn't taken in the summer heat but in spring last year! Same clear blue sky though!
Thanks once more, Gudrun!
