“Mummy, it’s awfully high up here!”
Seen from my house window, looking down on our panel fence. Behind, is a pine tree that our sparrows like to nest in. There seems to be at least three of these young fledglings around, which considering the harassment that the sparrow family get from the many magpies, is very good.

Good that you have enjoyed another of my bird pictures Rosa. We have a lot of sparrows around our house, both house and tree sparrows. As you say, their chattering is very loud at times. They are the species that most visit my bird drinking station.

Fortunately we have a lot of very dense prickly bushes that the small birds can hide in. We have much too many magpies, I see at least five pairs near here -all hungry for young birds.

My first feeling of the bird's body language was curiosity, but your interpretation is much funnier, Herb. Very nice, delicate image, too!

Your sparrows need a family of blackbirds ... ours are relentless in keeping the magpies away! :D

Glad that you agreed with my thoughts on this Annalia but we will never really know.

We have many blackbird families in and around our gardens too. Last year, the magpies bit the heads of their fledgling!!!! The parents do try to chase the much bigger and fiercer magpies away but quite often without success. Their plaintive warning calls brings us much sorrow. Thats nature though!.

What I find fantastic in this beautiful and tender photo is that the tiny sparrow really seems to be chirping this message, in his own language , of course :-)

Hi Bea and yes, I see that precisely too. I count myself blessed being surrounded by so many birds but the call of the blackbird at 03.30 does cause some annoyance at times. In the late afternoon, around 19:00, presently we sit each day in our open door conservatory (its still light) and listen to our regular blackbird perched on the very highest point of a neighbours pine tree singing his beautiful songs followed by his chatty chirps.

Good to see you Peter. I guess if they have made it to this fence then they will be OK -except for Miss Cat maybe! Fortunately we do not see her so many times. I saw it last week trying to climb into that very same tree that these sparrows live in.

Great to see you here again Sarah. As you say, pretty common around these parts but they are still charming in their little ways. These young ones are now making friends with the bird reflections in my car door mirror, much to the annoyance of its owner who has to wash down the mirror and door every few days :)
