Sky mountains on fire.

30 Nov 2024 18 26 139
In many ways I know that I am lucky, inasmuch I can see the sun coming up above the horizon in the east from my bed. Most of the time here in the NW of England I only see the greyness of rain-laden clouds but on this morning I was greeted by this wonderful sunrise. The pointed cloud changed in moments from a mountain to a castle amongst a mountain range sat on a molten lava bed. Best full screen. Enjoy the day

Autumn shows its face

28 Sep 2023 21 18 202
The first signs of this year’s Autumn shows itself in my garden here. Some of our garden tree and hedge leaves have begun to turn golden, so a quick dash out with the camera is needed. Here we see a small clump in contre-jour. Enjoy full screen.

A Christmas card from my home.

24 Dec 2021 38 58 239
Another view from my home on a rare morning of warm sunrise and fresh snow. Even the fence looks nice and the snow laden pine gives this a Christmas card feel. (Unfortunately the weather today is quite different!) I wish you All, A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Safe Year

Animal Lives Matter!

10 Jun 2020 31 42 255
Too much media attention for these animals. After the recent demonstrations here in Bristol and London, these foxes decided to follow suit. They found the statue of a human in my garden and toppled it over. Good job it was not near the sea or they would have dragged it there before throwing it in. (all from my garden, yesterday - do you recognise my bird bath?) pip Enjoy.

Sparrow on fence

19 Jun 2020 36 82 264
“Mummy, it’s awfully high up here!” Seen from my house window, looking down on our panel fence. Behind, is a pine tree that our sparrows like to nest in. There seems to be at least three of these young fledglings around, which considering the harassment that the sparrow family get from the many magpies, is very good. HFF, enjoy your weekend

Mr Black pays a visit.

04 Jul 2020 18 23 230
Mr Black pays a visit. We are very fortunate that we have a few families of blackbirds (Turdus merula) nesting and feeding around our gardens here at home. This is the adult male resting on our side fence, keeping an eye open for the naughty magpies looking for Mr Black’s nest. Now not only does he look an attractive bird with his bright yellow beak and eye ring but his song is to die for. He and his friends often roost on the very tops of our tall conifers and sing to each other at their heart content, especially at dawn and dusk. A few days before snapping this I did the rare thing of recording his song with my phone and I have uploaded that for your pleasure here in my Ipernity Docs section. Enjoy full screen with my sound clip running.

Artist at work ?

In these days of lock-down and self-isolation for us ‘owd-uns’ (old-ones), sometimes we have to find other things to do besides taking and editing photos. Here is yours-truly messing around on his latest unfinished 'masterpiece' at his very amateur water painting hobby. And, don’t worry, I am not always as untidy as this –I am afraid the photography got in the way here :) Maybe we should start a new Ipernity group named –‘Our other hobbies’
