Life in Lock-down fence.

As since Thursday midnight, our second Covid National lock-down starts to take hold, we see here a refreshing view of life before all that. In reality this was taken some eight or so weeks ago and so restrictive meetings of groups was still in place. I presume these people were then in one family or in one of our now famous ‘bubbles’! - I for one, was certainly not going to break up their little bit of freedom.
HFF. Have a very safe and enjoyable weekend.

Red for Autumn

Ah yes, it might be red now but this bush is a purplish-pink colour in spring. I think it is a single twig of a Cotinus bush but I am no expert. In any case I thought it looked quite nice framed by this dark green fence and I do like the reddish reflections. I hope you do too.
HFF. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

The Wonders of Mallorca: Deia – Son Marroig
This wonderful structure belongs to what is now the museum and grounds of ‘Son Marroig’, a beautiful 19th century manor that was owned by the Austrian Habsburgs. It was an emblematic possession in Deia where Archduke Ludwig Salvator lived.
From here a wonderful garden path leads us to a trail down to the sea far below where more wonderful views and a fabulous little restaurant awaits.
See PiPs for more view in and out.
HFF, enjoy your weekend in safety.
Summer of 2020

As we walk past fields of glorious yellow, we see and feel the beauty of our world again. Even the damp fence post seem to reflect the yellows too, but in actual fact, on closer inspection one can see it is in fact yet more of the yellow heads dancing around in the foreground breeze. Now let our eyes and mind meander along to the gate on the right and simply Enjoy!
The yellow flowers are 'Ragwort' (senecio jacobaea), a semi- poisonous nuisance weed –that is very bad for livestock, although it tastes so bad that animals are repelled by it. It thrives with other insects though, so good for nature in general.
HFF. Let’s have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

A view of the Digley Reservoir overflow. This reservoir is the bigger of two in a series near the Pennine village of Holmfirth. We visited this area last December, well before lock-down and have not had the chance to go back yet. A rather ornate fence and gate to this and guessing how deep that hole is, a good precaution. The gate, another HFF shot in PiP.
HFF, enjoy the weekend.
Grotton fences

This shows one of the ways that we take on our isolation exercise walks. It’s about a mile or so from my home near the large hamlet of Grotton. This small valley area had several old mills along the riverside –long since gone now but you can still see here some of the river modifications that they needed. An old lodge (reservoir used for the steam engines) was located just to the left of the metal fenced pathway.

Sparrow on fence

“Mummy, it’s awfully high up here!”
Seen from my house window, looking down on our panel fence. Behind, is a pine tree that our sparrows like to nest in. There seems to be at least three of these young fledglings around, which considering the harassment that the sparrow family get from the many magpies, is very good.

On an Old Rugged Cross…

Looking like a rustic cross on its side here, is part of the fence to the back of our Devonshire cottage we hired last year. To the back of that were vast fields of wheat that rattled in the breeze but unfortunately not a red poppy in sight. The brown rusty leaves on here, old Ivy I think, were a bonus.
Ps –maybe like me, you will now have that wonderful song of the same name in your head. If not, this might help: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JS9P8d2iOc

Visions of Park Bridge: A fenced heritage
05 Jun 2020 |

HFF wishes from the Park Bridge Country Park. We are just approaching the steep rocky valley, outlined in the series of photos before this. These fences stop people and animals venturing into the two small area’s which are in fact depressions in the ground with now covered deep holes, possibly caused by mining tunnel collapses as this was coal mining country. This at one time would have been a busy place but now it’s generally quite lonely. The trees are a new addition.

A view of the outflow inspection bridge of Digley Reservoir -near the village of Holmfirth. The Danger sign reminds us to naturally keep of this structure but it also reminds us that we are altogether restricted from visiting such places at the moment with this Corvid19 lock-down. Here in the UK one should only venture out to such places if you can get there by foot from you home, whilst socially isolating of course! Ah well- we can look forward to a future where such visits are possible again – Notice the sun is coming!
HFF, enjoy the weekend and keep very SAFE
An Ingleborough fence

Fences and dry stone walls describe the fact that we are in The Yorkshire Dales looking towards the iconic mountain of these parts Ingleborough. On the other side of this fence, one would usually encounter the many breeds of sheep that roam about here but mainly Herdwick.
Have a great and safe weekend,

These residential back-gardens are locked in by fences, a little like our lives by this C19 virus. On a brighter note, we see here a favourite reflection subject along this stretch of the ‘Peak Forest Canal’ in Greater Manchester.

Another look at these falls, this time showing part of the narrow trail that edges the river at so many points. As you can see a fence is sorely needed here. This trail runs up one river valley before returning via another and all along the path meanders, sometimes quite steeply up and down,

A blast of Winter

As the Winter here in Oldham carries on forever, there are some benefits. Here we stroll down one of my local walks which is transformed into a Winter Wonderland. The fence forcing our eye and bodies to continue down the road wondering, "what is around the corner".
