  • A break in the weather

    - 26 Mar 2017 - 4 comments
This is day 4 of sunny weather. Thursday and Friday were very cold but on Saturday I was able to shed my winter coat at last. My shoppng trip went well, the highlight being the mobile butchers £10 special. I got 3 sirloin steaks, the full chicken breasts,3 large pork chops and 12 large pork sausages.Pretty good for local fresh produce I think. today my thoughts turned to the jungle that is my garden. With a very wet winter I haven't ben able to get near it. I started on the front. If I had thrown…

  • I broke free

After days of high winds and heavy rain AGAIN I managed to escape and get some shopping done. A brief 2 hour spell between the rain came at the right time. not much in the way of exciting shopping but I did bump into a couple of fellow weather prisoners let out for a while. I thought I would show you a photo of Chris the butcher and his mobile stall, how he gets that beast into that space I don't know but he does I get my meat here direct from the farm good healthy stuff and no greedy superma…

  • another false dawn?

Since my last hopeful blog the weather has been dreadful. My saturday shopping trip was postponed. today I had to go for an eye test so whatever the weather is was going to be a combined trip with the eye test and shopping. the weather gods smiled on me the sun shone,my eye test went well and I got some bargains at the shops. I am a happy bunny at least until the weather Gods get angry again

  • At last a break in the weather

After the worst February I can remember with a mixture of gales, rain and fog at last thje sun has made an appearance. It was still cols in the shade but in the sun it was very pleasant.I just hope we have it for a good spell. As you can imagine after a very wet winter the garden is in a terrible state but too wet to make a start on yet.

  • Saturday catch up

    - 11 Feb 2017 - 3 comments
I am here to catch up with you lot rather than report anything from here because quite frankly I have been doing bugger all but a little shopping and trying to keep warm. At least the snow has kept away so far although that would at least present a chance for some photos

  • Breakout

    - 01 Feb 2017 - 4 comments
After a spell of lousy weather kept me cabined up last night seemed for it to continue. I was emptying my littler bin into the wheelie bin and the weather was foul,a havt sea mist and a downpour of mizzle restricted my view so much I could hardly see across the road. Today it all changed, the morning was bright and a lot warmer than of late. After breakfast I wrapped up and went for a stroll, not far with my back still a little fragile but I got about 3 miles in. By 12:30 the sun broke through an…

  • Back and off the sick list ,just about

    - 28 Jan 2017 - 4 comments
I have been busy being ill for more than a week,I had all the symptoms of flu apart from the achy joints. I don't know where it came from, probably one of those germ ridden townies breathing on me when I was on a shoppinjg trip. I have been much better the last 3 days but not fully recovered. As soon as the recovery from that started my back started playing me up,it happenes if I am inactive for any length of time,I need to walk to keep things loose but feeling lousy and bad weather have kept me…

  • A belated Happy New Year folk

    - 03 Jan 2017 - 6 comments
I have been busy with family visits over the holidays with trips to see Gemma,Arron and Mia of course, then Stephen was next on the list finishing on New Years Day when I was host. We drank a lot, laughted a lot and ate rubbishy but very tasty snacks. I had an idea in the afternoon,oh yes I get them now and again. I Skyped Jenny as I knew she would not have visitors at that time of day. She was delighted to see us all together and of course Mia was the highlight. Now things are getting back…

  • I hope your Christmas went as well as mine,I know Jenny's did

    - 27 Dec 2016 - 4 comments
Well a wonderdful Christmas is winding down here with a quiet day. On Christmas morning I went to Stephen and exchanged bottles of Irish as always, seems pointless but we do it anyway. After a lovely beef foast for my dinner Ellen and Colin came to seem me in the afternoon. Ellen knowing how much I like making soups bought me a soup and smoothy maker, just the ticket. We had a couple of drinks and then off visiting. Christmas is always plotted out by one of the girls this year for the first ti…

  • A white Christmas? no chance

    - 24 Dec 2016 - 4 comments
Yesterday we had our first skirmish with the storms. The winds only hit gusts of 55mph but the rain was like a monsoon. This was my front street with flooding on the road which as I live on a hill is very rare. today we have a lull before another storm sweeps in tomorrow Oh Goodie! This is a snap of the cats taken a couple of days ago showing what a hard life they have. A merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Maybe with a new year we can all find a new home,I know John has on…

  • more good times

I wrote yesterday about how nice my weekend had been talking to Margaret followed by the trip to see mother, yesterday afternoon gave me another boost. The door opened and my granddaughter Gemma poked her head round and asked "Ok Granddad?" She had Arron and Mia in tow and that was lovely sight. Mia was sporting her Christmas jumper and carrying a Christmas elf,she came right over and gave me the elf and a big kiss, that was an unbeatable feeling.Loosing interest in me she took the elf back an…

  • A break in a busy time

    - 19 Dec 2016 - 5 comments
I have just popped in to see what you have been writing and to leave my odd bits of news. Yesterday marked 16 years since the death of my beloved Margaret,I spent the day quietly and took a stroll along the beach to our favourite place and sat awhile. it isn't the same place now, where we used to watch the little fishing smacks heading for home and the sun setting behind the Isle of Man now all I see is 300 windturbines sitting motionless, big useless chunks of steel and plastic filing the horizo…

  • mother panics, rings me,I answer the call

    - 05 Dec 2016 - 3 comments
I had a phone call from my old Ma this morning,a leaky WC cistern causing panic. I collected some tools and a selection of ruber seals and headed off. It was fixed in a couple of minutes, panic over. I stayed a while before wandwring homeward. I walked past he resevoir hoping to see some birds but they were all over the other side bar one. This beautiful swan came to say hello but alas I had nothing for him but a few kind words

Not much weather wise to bother us yet unlike Wales a few days ago and Jenny's neck of the woods today and overnight. From what I have seen she should have missed the bad stuff. Here we have been having hail storms for the last 2 days and the Lake district fells have their white caps on. I braved the hail for a trip to town this morning and only got caught outside in one shower. Shopping done I returned home with my shopping glad to be in for a sit down and a coffee. This didn't happen until 2…
