I have been busy in the run up to Christmas and now I am about ready. An early trip to town on Satyrday and I am done. I'll catch the 8:30 for a one shop stop at Herons to pick up a few snacky bits and hopefully I will be home by 9:30 just as the town begins to get manic. Have a good one folks and be kind to each other

After days 0of wind rain and hail this morning dawned calm and dry. The sun rise and the sky turned blue cheering the place up no end. After breskfast I poked my npse outside amd was greeted by a very cold north easterly mut that didn't put me off,it's easier to dress for cold than it is for hail and rain. i donned my winter coat boots, gloves and benny hat and headed off for the great outdoors. I wandered round for and hour before heading for the warmth of home and a hot cup of coffee. It w…

Shopping done I carted my back pack and two large bags home.stowed the food and grabbed a coffee. I turned on tne TV to see what sport I have to watch and was pleased to see a full day of fun. After a minor op I expected to be back on song by now but far from it. I have no pains but I feel completely drained of energy. I have to take short steps and be very careful bending because of hte stitches and so I don't feel my normal confident self walkng around, inside or outside. I guess I need more time and rest

  • back in action

    - 03 Nov 2017 - 5 comments
I have been away for a couple of days. I had to go in a get a very nice man to slice a piece off me with a very sharp knife. Enough info there. THe speed of treatment and the staff themselves were first rate and made my short stay as pleasant if possible and now I am back feeling great. I had to have a minder for 24 hours and wasn not allowed to use machinery or even a cooker. A cue for Ellen to be my guardian angel she has been looking after me well and slept on a cramped settee. I was al…

  • All is quiet at last

    - 17 Oct 2017 - 4 comments
After a 30hour battering by 70 to 80mph winds and heavy rain the storm has past leaving a trail of damage in it's wake. I didn't get off this time with damage to the weatherboard under the eaves and a garden in complete turmoil At least the power stayed on others weren't so lucky there. We have a lot of flooding and damage to buildings and the local football stadium lost it's roof.

  • The year the rains came continues

    - 11 Oct 2017 - 4 comments
About a week after the first storm of the season roared through another hit overnight and into this afternoon with 70mph wind and torrential rain. Large parts of the county are flooded and rural areas cut og altogether with 4inch odf rain falling overnight on the fells. when heavy rains fall in th mountains and hill there is only one way to go,down. We have large parts of the island underwater again as is most of my back garden. Thw winds have abated ad the rain is only light now so I hope to…

we have been lucky with storms the last couple of years but yesterday one caight us. It was no where near as savage as the big one hitting other parts of the world but 70 mph winds driving very heavy rain battering us for 12hours is bad enough.Large parts of the islans and lower parts of the maimline will no dought be under water this morning,I am happy to be percued oh a hill well away from the dangers of flooding, All is calm this morning so I am off to make sure some of the less able bodied…

Once again yesterday I was back on catch up with the garden,Since I last mowed a couple of weeks ago we have had rain almost everyday. Yesterday after two or three dry days I started again. The front and larger parts of the back were ok if hard work When I stepped onto the rougher part to move the planters it was like stepping onto marsh land so wet had the ground become. Defeated I called it a day hoping the dry weather forecast for the next few days would do the trick. Alas the forecasters w…

  • back in harness at last

Yesterday the sun shone and the grass had dried out, time for action. I started on the front garden hard work after a 3 week lay off because of the weather but I sprted it.After a break I turned my attention to the back,a different story here. There was no way I could get a mower through the left had side so I had no choice but to strim the lot.A gruelling job but satistfying whewn done. I moved the planters over and then found I had to strim the patch where they had been becoause of the long…

  • Amongst the junk a little gem

Sorting out my built in wardrobe today to make room for my winter woolies I discovered this photo, It was taken at a charity bash in a local nightclub. It was held by the landlord and landlay of our local. Most pubs in town have a charity they support, ours was Guide dogs for the blind. Fund raising events were held throughout the year and one big bash at the end of it. The club gave us the room for free but they did all right with the takings half of which were donated to the cause and…

  • how technology ages Fast

A project in the pipeline is to get rid of this enormous bed and replace it with a modern divan. It has two gull length draws so plenty of storage but it is just to large. this is the space left to get through not much when bed making. The piece of furniture is something I knocked together many years ago out of an old wardrobe and painted up. It has casters for easy movement, This should be big enough to stow the bedding, towels and other odds and ends in the bed drawers.…

  • Flying ant day

    - 14 Aug 2017 - 10 comments
After a lovely afternooon yesterday turned nasty I went out late afternoon to soak up some more rays,as I sat with my crossword book a flyin ant landed on the page. I have lived here too many years not to know it would not been alone. I looked around and the sky was full of the little buggers. They were pouring out of a nest in the garden wall and some were coming over on the breeze from next door I sprang up and noticed another nest emptying on the path and one on the wall of the house. I c…
