A stroll on a pleasant day
- 14 Jun 2017 - 3 commentsThe sun wasn't cracking the pavements in facts it spent a lot of time in hiding but the temps were good and with little breeze it was a perfect day for a stroll. I decided to revisit the Little Haven hoping to find plants in flower and I did. After stroll around taking a few snaps I sat by the channel side and watched the world go by for a while,a very nice way to spend a morning. I caught sight of the advertising trailer parked by the main road and it gave me a chuckle. The rest of t…

Geese ducks and geese on a choppy rezza
- 12 Jun 2017 - 5 commentsAfter more terrible weather I managed a break for freedom today and visited my old Mam. I caught the bus halfway then walked the rest cutting through the old Iron work resevoir, knowm round these parts as simply the rezza. It's a pleasant place two artificial islands have been made for the birds and there are plenty of benches to take 5. I got some snaps of.geese, ducks ans a couple of swans, one with young. I had a good visit exchanging familt gossip and took 2 buses on my jouney home as the w…

Ways to be welcomed into the dawn
- 10 Jun 2017 - 7 commentsThere are differing ways to be greeted as you wake.A soft peck on the cheek and a "Good morning Hon" from a lover or a bundle of energy in the shape of a small child bursting in a throwing their arms aroud you. Two good ways to start the day I think. Here is what happened today to me. I awoke quickly as always glanced at the clock and saw it was 6:40 a normal time or me to wake. I threw back the covers and swung me legs over the side of the bed just as Sooty appeared,he wound himself in and o…

a break in the weather
- 09 Jun 2017 - 8 commentsAfter being cabined up since Sunday due to heavy rain and gales today we finally got a break. As this break is only going to last today with the rain returning tomorrow and Sunday I made the most of it. Deciding today was the best day to get my big shop in I strolled over to town this morning. I was there early so no annoying crowds to get under my feet, shopping done I returned on the 9:40 made a couple of bacon buns and sat out to eat them. The weather wasn't warm enough for tee shirt and short…

Giving Gracie a clue to our weather
- 05 Jun 2017 - 6 commentsGracie comented on my blog this morning about our every changing weather. Here is a clue of what can happen in a 3 day spell Gracie. Yesterday mornig we had a sea mist limiting my line of sight to the houses opposite. The morning sun won the battle and we had wall to wall sunshine, The temps however had dropped from the 80s of the last two days to 60 (Yep 60) in a cold sea breeze. Overnight we had gale force winds and today I awoke to a dark dismal mornig with pouring rain and it hasn't let…

Even though it was sunny the temps dropped rom 80f to 60f with a cold breeze making it feel even coooler. Today as promised the rain has returned with a vengence and the central heating has kicked in. No let up until weekend at the earliest. GGGGRRRRR!!!!

Day two in the garden, going well
- 01 Jun 2017 - 4 commentsThis morning it was a little overcast but the clouds soon gave way to the sun I strimmed and mowed the whole of the right hand side top and bottom, moved the planters over from the otherside and then had some lunch outside. The temps were climbing again so I started on the left hand side and had it mowed and strimmed in ubder an hour and tools cleaned and stowed. Time for another break and as the noise of the machines had stopped I was joned by the cats eager to roll on the newly mowed grass…

A lovely day for messing in the garden
- 31 May 2017 - 5 commentsWe hit 80f again this afternoon much too hot for mowing although the back is growing at a rate of knots. I decided on clearing grass from the bushes ,I started with the rose and that was easily done the gooseberry however needed a different approach. No gardening gloves here I donned a pair of welding gauntlets and set to work with my little three pronged fork( it is angled at 90o so perfect for the job). As a moved to the back side by the wall I had to pull the grass out,a good tug brought a…

June looms ahead and maybe summer
- 30 May 2017 - 3 commentsAs another mixed bag of weather closes May I am hoping for a more settled month ahead with plenty of sunshine. As I wandered taking snaps this month I ended up with a few odds and ends so I hs#ave put them together here. My favourite is the much maligned dandelion, hated by gardeners for growing where they are not wanted. Well I think they are very pretty little fellas. More photos here

Of armed police on our streets, good shopping and awaiting storm
- 27 May 2017 - 4 commentsI was up and early into town today before the hordes descended and the storm appeared. We have had armed police guarding some areas of town, glad to say all is quiet. We build nuclear subs here so of course security is always high but this is up a notch. There have never been armed police stationed in our town in my lifetime and probably never at all. The shopping went well, with pipe fodder, fresh fruit and veg,and some dead animal parts all collcected in time for the six minutes past nine…

Hot and humid
- 26 May 2017 - 3 commentsThe temps today have been similar to yesterday but the humidity is much higher making it feel sticky The cats have had trouble keeping cool and I have divided my time between indoors and out. The hight humidity could be caused by a weather front closing in. tomorrow,s forecast from 13:00h to 23;00h is as follows thunderstorms with lightning and hail plus rain storms hammering down between 2 or 3 inches in an hour. Oh Goody the fine weather didn't last long,I best get my shopping done early,…

Working in the sunshine
- 25 May 2017 - 6 commentsToday I awoke to a thick sea mist, with the weather we were forecast that was a good omen and so it proved. I was out cutting and strimming the front grass by 9:20 and finished at 9:55 a nice easy job with the grass just really needing a tidy. After a break I took a look at the back, the planters were on the right hand side so the idea was to cut the left and move the planters over, reversing the process next time. This worked very well and I had everything done, tools cleaned and put away and pa…

Of Cats, breakfast visitors and of course the rain returned
- 21 May 2017 - 4 commentsAfter a few days of fine weather allowing me to wander about today the rain returned,it's not all bad the grass is cut and the plants could do with the rain. When the weather is good the cats go crackers running hither and tither in and out of the house. Of course this takes it's toll and they need a rest. Sooty lords it on his bet Zazzles finds a sunny patch. Along with the sparrows, starlings and blackbirds recently I have had two breakfast visitors. The very pretty Gold fin…

Following yesterday's little lane
- 18 May 2017 - 3 commentsI carried on down the lane I showed yesterday and on the the shoreline where the channel splits in two. I joined where the west fork fills the gullies to form the salt water marsh and followed the headlead round until I faced east and the channel proper. Not much water to see as it was low tide just a lot of very dangerous gully and sinking sand areas Still there was plenty of plant life around as well as the boats. If you look at the photos you will see lots of grass but come at high tide an…

A change to shopping and a nice walk
- 17 May 2017 - 7 commentsNow I am in better shape I have decided to split my shopping into two days. The Saturday shop is usualy a back pack and two large bags,A fair weight to lug around. so today the weather being dry and mild if not sunny I decided on the two mile walk to town. I turned right instead of the usual left on leaving my house and joined the Promenade a couple of hundred yards farther south. I passed this little lane that goes between some alotments on the way to where the channel spits in two. (I will…

Walney park and trees
- 15 May 2017 - 2 commentsAfter leaving the Little Haven yesterday and heading back over the bridge I decided as the forecast is for rain all week I would extend my walk to combine the park and suronding trre. As everybody who knows me will tell you I like nothing better than leaving concrete and asphalt surfaces behind and heading for the little trails. Combine this with my love of trees and this was the perfect way to end my walk More photos here
