Little Egret Hunting (1)

Little Egret Hunting (1)
Two images from me today, taken yesterday afternoon during one of my "mystery tours" along the shores of Chichester Harbour, West Sussex.

If you view this large and look closely you can see that the Egret has plucked a dragonfly out of mid-air!

I have a couple more shots of this lovely bird which I'll post in a day or so.

Günter Klaus, Colin Ashcroft, Fred Fouarge, Jean Paul Capdeville and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

I was amazed at how quickly it struck.........and that I managed to capture the shot. I wish I'd had my 100-400mm zoom lens with me, but I'm very happy with this.

You're right of course, but I expect it will catch a few fish as well.

A dragonfly is nothing more than a snack for this heron. The terrible harpoon in its beak is infallible in the practice of fishing. Warm greetings, Anton.

I can't argue with that Anton.............but it will catch fish as well as insects during the day. Thanks for dropping in and commenting.

I know these and all their cousins are opportunists when it comes to hunting but I didn't know they went in for insects!
Great capture both of you!!

I think they'll eat pretty much anything they can catch Andy, but they probably prefer fish I suspect.

Glad you like the shot...........and thank you.

Ein toller Treffer! Ja, sie sind sehr schnell mit ihren Schnäbeln. Und Libellen scheinen gut zu schmecken. Mein Kater frisst sie auch.

This one was very fast..........I was quite surprised to find I'd timed it just right! Your cat must be pretty fast too :-))

Absolutely beautiful and not only have you caught the moment well, but in such great detail and the colour in both shots in the water is amazing.

Have a good Sunday and new week Keith.

Thank you very much Rosa............I was lucky to get so close, especially as I didn't have my 100-400mm lens with me! I was very happy to get these though.

Glad you like them. I've had a tiring day in the garden today, so will probably be asleep in the chair later :-)))
