Leaf

We tried to cut through the neighbourhood cemetery while walking today. There are no shovelled paths through the cemetery, but one (summer) path has been partly beaten down by people walking over the snow. This late in the winter, the hard snow is about 40 cm higher than the ground, and a walker must be very careful to walk exactly on the highest part. That is to prevent unexpectedly dropping to the depth of your knee in the softer, unpacked snow. But . . . each of us did exactly that several times.
And then, near the end of the path, we discovered it was entirely blocked by a small funeral -- an awning, three people and a casket, over a hole. We couldn't get by, at least not without disrupting the ceremony. So we turned around and went back.
Good too because I saw this leaf on top of the snow while coming back.
