Myrtle and Harry

I took this picture in March or April of 1999. I had called Harry to ask him about arrangements he had made fifty years earlier of a few Newfoundland folk songs. We hit it off and I visited his house several times where we chatted at great length about his early life as a music teacher, performer, and composer. His wife, Myrtle, was always interested and helpful.
They were just moving into smaller quarters, where they remained until they died -- within about a year of each other -- seven years later.
I took about three dozen pictures of them over the course of a few days, but this one, on Tri-X film in my Canonet, is my favourite.
