Eine haarige Schönheit - A hairy beauty

An der Blütenknospe einer Acker-Kratzdistel (Cirsium arvense) munter fressend fand ich dieses schön gefärbte, haarige, kleine Ungeheuer, das ich als die Raupe des Nachtfalters Ampfereule (Acronicta rumicis) bestimmte. Der Schmetterling, der sich aus dieser hübschen Raupe entwickelt, ist absolut unauffällig, beinahe hässlich (man sagt: hässliche Raupe-schöner Schmetterling bei Tagfaltern, schöne Raupe-hässlicher Schmetterling bei Nachtfaltern), siehe Wikipedia-Artikel. Die Raupe der Ampfereule hat ein enormes Nahrungsspektrum von 40 Pflanzenarten, d.h. sie kann praktisch überall vorkommen, was auch ihr Verbreitungsgebiet zeigt. Die Art ist in Deutschland nicht gefährdet.

Feeding lively on the flower bud of a field thistle (Cirsium arvense), I found this beautifully coloured, hairy little monster, which I identified as the caterpillar of the knot grass moth (Acronicta rumicis). The butterfly that develops from this pretty caterpillar is absolutely inconspicuous, almost ugly (they say: ugly caterpillar-beautiful butterfly in day butterflies, beautiful caterpillar-ugly butterfly in night butterflies), see Wikipedia article. The knot grass moth caterpillar has an enormous feeding range of 40 plant species, i.e. it can occur practically anywhere, which is also shown by its distribution range. The species is not endangered in Germany.
