Signposts

Near Dreki hut at the foot of Askja volcano in the middle of the Icelandic highland desert (the light coloured stuff is pumice from the 1875 Askja eruption). It's always fun to come across such signposts seemingly in the middle of nowhere!

For the 125km to Nýidalur you would probably need at least 6-7 hours in a 4x4 with high clearance as this F-road goes through lava fields and various fords. We only did the "easier" eastern part to Askja and that took us 5 hours for 100km. www.dangerousroads.org/europe/iceland/9864-f-roads-in-iceland.html

Schönen Dank, Lothar! Wenn du gefahren wirst, machen die richtig Spaß;-) Unser Busfahrer meinte, bei Waschbrett geradeaus kann er mit 80 brettern, aber ansonsten muss er schleichen. Alles dazwischen geht nciht, weil es den Bus sonst fast zerlegt....

Two really lovely images Gudrun.............both with wonderful depth and detail and I really like the sign in both.

My favourite is the main image............you've handled the selective colour really well and the sign stands out beautifully. The clouds are nicely defined and very dramatic.

The image in the PiP is beautiful, but not as dramatic for me. If the sign wasn't in the shot, I think I would have preferred the original.

Thanks very much, Rosa! Thankfully there are also huts (behind me) with park wardens, so it feels like civilization;-) This was the place where scientists stayed for months during the 2014 Bardurbaunga/Holuhraun eruption.

Thanks very much, Amelia! That camera (Isabel has the same btw) is fantastic! I bought it as a reward to myself for several cancelled holidays;-) Of course you have to get used to not having a zoom, but an 28mm fixed lens. It doesn't exactly fit into a pocket and is a bit heavier than other small cameras but I could wear it under my rain jacket when the weather was wet:-)
