Jökulsárlón

In the late 19th century Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, reached the sea but it has now retreated 6 km inland. Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon with its icebergs is 284m deep and 18km² large and is expected to grow further. In the end it will probably turn into a fjord.
Since 2017 Jökulsárlón is part of Vatnajökull National Park which also is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019. whc.unesco.org/en/list/1604

Herzlichen Dank, Udo! Das am "Ufer" ist der Gletscher, der bringt Gesteinsmehl und Asche mit, daher die Spuren. Der EIsberg vorne rechts hat auch ordentlich Asche drin.

Besten Dank, Wilhelm! Auf Island werden alle Gletscher bis auf den Vatnajökull zum Ende des Jahrhunderts weg sein, sagen die Wissenschaftler. In den Alpen viel früher.... Die Menschheit scheint nicht lernfähig:-(

Such a spectacular view Gudrun..........you've captured the ice in the foreground very well and I like the blue tones. I'm guess that most of it is underwater?

The background landscape is beautiful..........the light is lovely and I like the contrasts between the snow/ice and the ash (and whatever else the glacier is dragging along with it).

Thanks very much, Keith! I guess the large bergs have the major part underwater bur they also break up as they melt and sometimes turn over and eventually the bits swim out to sea on a very short tidal river.

Thanks very much, Amelia! I must say the Leica is of much higher quality but the Canon has GPS and I can use a tele- so I'd say I love both:-) For city breaks, inside buildings or for wide landscapes the Leica is perfect- but you need a very fast SD card as the RAW files are about 80MB each!
