Diese Dächer und Bauweise sind wohl auch ein Beitrag zu einer ausgeglichenen CO2 Bilanz obwohl man bei ihrer 'Erfindung' sicher noch nicht daran gedacht hat...

I love the turf rooves (archaic spelling that I was taught at school and still prefer), and the reflected green light on the bells. I couldn't understand the link (lazy British), but looked at the map of Iceland. There is no shortage of lighthouses! :-))))

Besten Dank, Reinhard! Früher nahm man als Baumaterial, was das Land hergab- und Holz war Mangelware! Torfhäuser wurden oft auch in den Hang gebaut- feucht und schlechte Luft vom Feuer....

Thank you, Herb! They do provide insulation but the poorer dwellings (not this one!) were very damp.

Great composition Gudrun........the fences make a great leading line across and then into the frame. The diffused light is gorgeous allowing this shot to be captured in great depth and detail.

I really like the look of the turfed buildings..........they fit into their surroundings beautifully and I bet they're really well insulated too. The detail and the vibrant green colours in the first PiP are superb and I like the textures in the stone wall.

The bells look lovely and have a nice patina on them.........and I like the woodwork too.

Thanks a lot, Keith! The diffused light was due to a day of heavy rain;-) This visit wasn't originally planned but there was a yellow weather warning in place so we found alternative things to do.
This farm was a wealthy one, so it was less damp and smoke filled than the poorer turf houses.

It is a very different and exciting composition. A nice white fence, and houses with turf on the roof (which I have seen in Iceland so many times)

Thanks very much, Peter! It's a good thing that quite a few turfhouses have been preserved. Many Icelanders prefer a modern house and let the old ones rot;-)
