I think I'm winning the battle
- 30 Apr 2018 - 4 commentsYesterday with the morning sun on my back (yep I did say sun) I got the second mow and strim on the front grass. I broke for lunch intending to do the same out the back afterwards. Then the heavens opened and wwe had an hour of rain. That put paid to anymore work in the garden. This morning I had a nice trip to mothers and spent the morning with her. On my return I grabbed a quick lunch and attacked the righthand side of the rear garden,it's still scruffybut short and scruffy. A good break an…

Now what?
- 25 Apr 2018 - 4 commentsAfter the first late attempt at taming the widerness the rain has returned everyday since. So while I await fir a break in the weather I am on house sorting duty. In an ideal world I need new windows and doors and the walls rendering but money puts this out of the question, With the help of very good friends I have the repairs from the storm damage the insurance company refused to pay up on just about done. A pal came round this morning and tested the wall by the rear window and declared it…

Oh Dear!
- 22 Apr 2018 - 5 commentsAny chance of progress in the garden was brought to a shuddering halt last night. As I sat on my massage chair easing a tired back I heard the ominous rubble of approching thunder and between 8:10 and 8:45 we had a real wowser of a storm the best in many a long year. It was maybe as well because I might have been tempted to push my dodgy back over the edge and the cost would have been very painful. At least the storm brought some entertainment from the cats who sat outside on the window sill…

The good work continues
- 19 Apr 2018 - 8 commentsToday I awoke to a clear blue sky.a promising start to the day. After sorting the cats and having breakfst I checked on the front garden. Still scruffy but short and scruffy so it was time to try the mower. The first job was to rake yesterday strimmer grass cuttings and then weed the border. this all took an hour such was the state of things. Next after a coffee I mowed the larger section,a 5 minute break then back to the smaller section. another hour gone and with a tiring back I took a lon…

A good days work today
- 15 Apr 2018 - 4 commentsToday I tackled the mess that prentends to be a lawn out front. With rain in the forecast I took advantage of the brief dry spell and set about it with the strimmer, the grass is much too long and messy to tackle with the mower. In 3 half our shifts with back rest breaks in between I managed to get te first cut done. My back was strarting to complain so I never got around to raking the cuttings up. I cleaned the strimmer, went inside kicked my boots off, clicked the kettle on for a coffee, put m…

walking weather
- 28 Feb 2018 - 3 commentsAfter a week of weather fit for walking in if not for a leisurely stroll today all changed. With a wind chill warning of -12c it is not the day for outdoors, snuggly tucked up inside is the order of the day. Large areas of the country have been hit by snow and in some places blizzards but here it has been clear. That was until last night when after talking to Jenny I went to but the Wheelie bin out for collection today Snow was falling and it was bone chillingly cold. By the time I went to b…

Good weather at last, for now anyway
- 23 Feb 2018 - 4 commentsI have managed a few walks of late plus getting the garden tidy and pruning the Buddleia,Rose,Gooseberry and Blackcurrant bushes. This however isn't going to last. There is a cold weather front heading our way,at the moment it is dropping into Russia from the Arctic from where it will sweep westwards on a collision course with us. OH goody. I spied this last night while letting the cats out.

A little snow
- 06 Feb 2018 - 4 commentsThis morning a rose at around 6:30 to a cold grey morning. By the time a had sorted the cats and myself out a lttle snow started to fall, the first for 8 or 9years. I took this snap of the front. This is my neighbour Allan's garden. and this the much bleaker view fron a rear upstairs window. Knowing the snow doesn't stay around long with us only yards from the sea I decided to head to the little wilderness as soon as it stopped which wa shortly before 10.Alas the melt was…

the sun returns
- 04 Feb 2018 - 3 commentsI awoke to clear skies and sunshine, the first time in a while. After sorting the cats out a grabbed a coffee and layered up for a brisk stroll. The wind was bitingly cold but I didn't care, this was fun, As I walked along people were coming from their homes blinking in the sunlight like animals emerging from hibernation. With the weather set to get colder with a strong chance of snow by Tuesday the window is short so tomorrow hopefully a trip to see mother is on the cards. I am snug inside noe…
