Starling on an apple bough

A friend was remembering her 1930s schoolbook poetry, but couldn't bring back much of one that had the phrase "the apple bough." So I went looking for the 19th-century poem she partly remembered. As it happens, the phrase "the apple bough" Is a very popular phrase in modern poetry. I did find her poem, though I can't remember it now. It was after trawling through dozens of poems with the phrase. (Hers wasn't Dylan Thomas's Fern Hill, by the way. Nor Orwell's Little Poem. Nor Graves's Pinch of Salt. They were all too late.)
Here is one of this morning's starlings, some of them young and easy, feeding in the apple boughs.
