lady blackbird - HFF!

I don't have the right equipment to even attempt wildlife shots, but this blackbird female must have gotten used to me walking laps around the garden and for once allowed me to come within a decent shooting distance as she poised on the neighbour's fence. Not exactly an Easter dove, but close enough! :)
HFF and a good Easter weekend to all!

HFF, have a 'Good Friday' and Easter weekend. Take care!
Annalia S. club has replied to Herb Riddle clubThis pair of blackbirds (I have seen the lady's husband too, though he's more guarded) must have had a nest in one of our trees that got knocked out by the wind (I found it on the ground a couple of weeks back), but I guess they rebuilt not too far from here because she still comes and forages in the garden - looking none too pleased to have me underfoot :D
You take care, too and have a nice holiday!
HFF and a nice Easter but take care.
Annalia S. club has replied to Roger (Grisly) clubExcuse my apart with Annemarie, she is the mother Teresa of most of us we try to understand what she says, it is not always "clear water" but it is always a compassionate and friendly word.
Annalia S. club has replied to J. Gafarot clubAs for what I thought ... I think lucky would have to be the word. Not so much for the opportunity to take a shot I would normally not be capable of taking, but to have somehow earned a bit of trust from this lovely wild creature. I don't feed them, but I think I do something they like, which is leave my garden almost as wild as a jungle. Which means they can always find something to eat here :)

We fell into a pattern now: she puts up with me walking around the garden, then I pull some weeds so she can enjoy the bugs in the disturbed soil and I get to attempt more pictures ... :)

The textures and golden color are a wonderful background for the blackbird.
Annalia S. club has replied to Diane Putnam clubHope all is well with you - at least as far as it can under the circumstances.
And thank you for your very kind comment!
raingirl club has replied to Annalia S. clubAnnalia S. club has replied to Léopold clubi'm so happy you added it to my group 'plants vs structures' so i could find it.
i also leave my yard alone. sometimes i wish i had a tended yard, they are so beautiful (i get to enjoy my neighbor's yard which is full of so many gorgeous plants she takes great care of), but i grew up in the woods and love watching what happens all on its own. maybe i'm just lazy, but i do think that the wildlife prefers my oasis to the plain grass yards in my suburban neighborhood.
can't wait to hear about how your bird relationship continues!!
Annalia S. club has replied to raingirl clubLady Blackbird and I continue to be on good terms. She is probably a bit disappointed that I haven't been pulling weeds much recently. Like you, I am either too lazy or too tenderhearted with weeds: for the most part they seem too interesting, resilient or even too pretty in their own right and the only ones I actually pull are nettles (as a matter of self-defence) and parietaria (because my husband is allergic to it). I don't mind the wild state of my garden. And you are right, it does feel like having a miniature woodland just outside the backdoor. I do have a collection of potted plants, mostly rescues from the garden of a plant loving neighbour who died suddenly a few years ago, and two hydrangea bushes I inherited from the previous owners of the house and a rosebush I planted over the the spot where we buried our feline companion when she went to the Great Hunting Grounds of the Spirit. Those make for occasional photos of non-wild flowers, the rest is pretty much an urban jungle :)))
raingirl club has replied to Annalia S. clubGlad Lady Blackbird and you are still happy together. I've seen people completely be-friend wild birds (in some online videos). A great thing to get to do!
You are in Florence, yes? I have been there once. We met some lovely Italians living there who showed us their Florence including an evening street fair filled with only Italians, no tourists. That is my favorite way to travel. I belong to an international peace organization called Servas (only virtual travel at the moment of course). It is a host/traveller organization. I've travelled and met people with it, and for years have been a host. People come and stay for just a couple nights, so no over staying, but enough to get to know someone. Usually people eat dinner together. The rest is up to the people involved. Sometimes it's just a bed and a meal, sometimes it's full on showing one around, sometimes it's helping with chores and the running of the family day. It's all wonderful.
(Please excuse me if I'm wrong about where you are located...)
