Just playing around with the empty shells of snails that don't make it through the winter. Photography helps to keep me sane even in the small, enclosed world that is our lot during this lockdown. Sorry if the subject matter is a bit repetitive, though. :)
A big thank you to all of those who continue to contribute their images and comments and help us "captives" get through this rough time!

raingirl, autofantasia, sunlight, dsglass and 22 other people have particularly liked this photo

What do you think the snails want to tell you with their formation?
Possibly "Keep Save" with the mirrored S ...???

Ciao, Gabi.

Lovely rich colours. Garden snails here are just pests, are these the 'champignon' variety?

George, they *can* be eaten, but they have to be thoroughly cleaned first. And to be honest, it takes so long and is so fussy that it's easier just to buy a tin of snails and put 'em in re-usable shells!

My mom used to fix them when I was a kid but the preparation I remember best involves getting them during the cold months, when they seal themselves inside their shells by forming a calcium lid over the entrance. That way there's no need to "purge" them and a simple rinsing is all that's required. She would then boil them still sealed, serve them in the shell and with a toothpick you would pry them out of the shell and dip them in a sauce made with oil, salt, pepper and grated celery root. I don't eat the ones from my garden though, and pretty much let them munch on undisturbed. I have given up trying to grow vegetables a long time ago since the garden is on the north side and shaded by trees.

So glad you are managing, Annalia. It must be very hard. We are about to head there, I think, indoor isolation, I mean.
Keep collecting your tiny treasures from the garden!
A big hug....Diana

Thank you, Diana. I am afraid this thing is going to get nasty just about everywhere. I have relatives and friends in the States and worry that the US lost precious time in the beginning and has started testing quite late in the game, allowing the virus to spread widely before they even tried to rein it in. Australia was much more proactive and, although that might not spare you a full lockdown, it should give you a better chance to handle the situation. For my work, I have a lot of contacts with Africa and I am very much afraid of what is going to happen there. Countries with very limited health care resources could get totally overwhelmed very quickly. Their only positive outlook comes from the fact that their population is generally younger and might fare better than Italy, which had one of the highest life expectancy values in the world and is now losing a heart-breaking number of people among the elderly. And what a way to go ... without even the comfort of the presence of a loved one, without a funeral to help those who remain have closure. This virus is hurting us to the very quick of our social nature.
I alternate between trying to stay positive and giving in to the sorrow. Unfortunately, you caught me in one of the gloomy moments ... Sorry!
A big hug back to you and thanks for your comforting words.

yes, photography can help us a lot in such situations, when we act with joyful creativity.
You layed the snails in form of a Question mark ? What's your Question ?
Annalia S. club has replied to FarbFormFreude club
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I started out with the idea of arranging them in a spiral, to mimic their own form, but realised I did not have enough of them to form a nice spiral, so I went for a simpler figure. It's clever of you to note that I inadvertently formed a question mark ... I can think of several subconscious questions that could be behind that. One above all, perhaps: "Will we ever be the same after this?"
FarbFormFreude club has replied to Annalia S. club
the answer is easy, because it's the same after every day : NO

No, we will not be the same, cause every morning gives us a new way to live - but after this time the changes will be a lot heavier than usual
