The last light streams in laterally and lights up the top of a hedge fence. This may look like autumn, but it's actually spring: the new leaves in this particular plant are red, pink or pale gold until they can synthetize enough chlorophyl to turn green (see a close up in the PIP). The grey background is the back of a climbing crag facility in the adjacent lot. So, here's hoping you all have a fiery HFF!

I don't have the right equipment to even attempt wildlife shots, but this blackbird female must have gotten used to me walking laps around the garden and for once allowed me to come within a decent shooting distance as she poised on the neighbour's fence. Not exactly an Easter dove, but close enough! :) HFF and a good Easter weekend to all!

Spring is by far my favorite time of the year and being confined at home at this time is undeniably a bummer. But really I should not complain, since I am one of the lucky ones who have a garden where I can still enjoy glimpses of Nature's awakening. A Japanese quince bush all dressed up in its fiery red spring color. I love the waxy texture and showy hardiness of these flowers. These grow right up against a garden fence on the street side, which allowed me to stick my camera between the fence posts and take a close up of a group of blossoms surrounded by a sea of their siblings.
