We Are The World
We Are The World Michel Jackson solo in the recording session for “We Are The World” (Michael Jackson – Lionel Richie), the 1985 charity single and the album of the same name produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. According to LaToya Jackson "I'd go into the room while they were writing and it would be very quiet, which is odd, since Michael's usually very cheery when he works. It was very emotional for them” She also later said that Jackson wrote most of the lyrics "but he's never felt it necessary to say that".
The supergroup USA for Africa was responsible for one of the best-selling singles of all time. “We Are The World” sold more than twenty-million physical copies and was the first single certified as multi-platinum. The Grammy winner topped the charts world wide and was the fastest selling pop song in American history at the time. The project was the brain child of Harry Belafonte for the organization United Support Artists For Africa (USA For Africa).
