Another lovely homage to Marie-Claire. Unfortunately I didn't know her, but I do understand how devastating it is when a friend you've made on here, dies. It's just like my friend, Mickey Ferris, who died last month.

In communion with you Andy. 5 days have passed, the gaping hole she leaves behind her seems to me to be getting bigger, despite our strengthened friendship and solidarity.
You survived, thank God or whoever, and she passed away. That's the way life is, and we have to get used to it again and again. A hard, perhaps the hardest test as we age...

Indeed so, Eric as I return from a long day spent at the hospital for tests, etc. I do this at least once a month and the hospital is a long way from my home and involves 3/4 hour walking, 2 bus journeys and 2 metro lines. It can take 2.5 hours to get there. Today for the first time in a year I went on my own, not by a lift from family. As I'm only slowly getting strength back in my legs, I had to leave home at 6:00 to ensure I caught the first bus. I'm pleased to say that I managed the whole day without a walker or walking stick so I feel that at last progress is being made! I plan to get back to walking in the mountains by this time next year. Sorry, this comment has nothing to do with Marie-claire but something in your comment sparked my reply!

A (very) late reply, Andy. I had a vague idea of your aftermath. But your account makes me realise what an ordeal you've been through and especially the infinite patience and tenacity it requires.
My best wishes for a return to hiking next year...

Like many of these things, it's a case of two steps forward, one step back but the overall trend is one of continued progress. When I came out of hospital in August last year after 2 months in an induced coma due to the Delta variant, progress was rapid and I was certain I would be back in the mountains before too long. Then I had setbacks with Long Covid and kidney problems and recovery changed from rapid to extremely slow including two further hospital stays. At least now I feel more in the way of progress than for some time! Many thanks for your concern!!

Very kind of you, José. I am significantly better than at any time in the past year. My mobile phone pedometer showed that I did over 18,000 steps yesterday, much much more than at any time since early 2020 - pre-Covid, and today I don't feel any stiffness so things are looking up!
Now time for my self massage on my legs for the lymphodema that I have but doesn't seem to hinder my walking!

Yes I am aware that there were many on ipertiny who gave me encouragement at a time when I was unaware of it (Isabel told me only after I came out of the induced coma - 2 months of it!). So i have been very grateful. Even if I don't know exactly who gave me most support, I can make an educated guess! Marie-claire would have been on that list of course as would you.
I'm still extremely grateful to all!
