The mountain narrow gauge railways of Wengen, Switzerland c1984

The mountain narrow gauge railways of Wengen, Switzerland c1984
Here is a selection of the trains running on those mountains at that time, now long superceded.

The Wengernalp Railway (WAB) is a 19.11 kilometres long, rack railway line in Switzerland. It runs from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald via Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg at 2,061 metres above sea level, making it the world's longest continuous rack and pinion railway. The name refers to the seasonal mountain pastures above Wengen. It has a track gauge of 800mm (2'7", UK=1435mm)

Originals on 35mm slide. Nice full screen.

Thanks George. In reality, just an excuse to give an airing to some dusty slides that never had hopes of such fame :) Some of the slides converted fine, others not so but it always gicves me a chance to relive these long gone holidays.
Keep well on this Easter day. Herb

Another that knows this area like Toz and Colin above. I hope this brought back pleasant memories. I have been to the area four times in all, the first time, like you in summer but only as a day trip to Gridelwald and Lauterbrunnen from the Lucern area. I was hooked after that! The other three trips -all ski trips.

Enjoy the rest of Easter and keep safe. Herb

Haha, yes, I thought the same as you Sarah. Frightening isn't it! - Yes the web shows this area and its trains as being quite different -but the mountains persist -thankfully.
