Attermire Scar

Attermire Scar
A grand walk through the Yorkshire Dales valleys here. We are walking the Attermire Scar trail which has taken us over the style from the bottom wall. Our walk continues along this wall (behind me) for about 500m before descending back down towards the village of Langcliffe. Along this walled section (see PiPs) we are overlooked by high crags in which the famous Victoria Cave lies hidden from view.

Enjoy

The Victoria cave section of this walk. The large cave entrance just a couple of hundred meters further on and higher up the scree shown on the right here from 2009. PiP's

Thanks Toz. We were past the cave before we realised it. The once clear path up to that seems to have disappeared. I did however see where to climb up to the mouth, but on this cold day I decided I had seen it a few times before so did no do it again. No way was Eileen going to struggle up the scree. The weather was simply very cold in the wind and very wet underfoot.

Bleak, but beautiful.................such a strange combination, but completely alluring. You are so luck to live in such wonderful surroundings!

These are cracking images Herb. The main image is superbly composed - I really like the dry stone walls and the detail you've captured in the landscape. The light is lovely and I like the subdued colour palette too.

Two super images in the PiPs as well. I especially like the wibbley - wobbley wall in the first PiP!

Thanks a lot Keith. Just over an hour away by car from us here and in many ways very similar to a lot of our much nearer scenery in the Saddleworth area, This is just a bit grander for sure! The cave PiP was done on my old Olympus in very poor weather but I put it here to complete the scene. Lots of these attractive walls, mostly made in the native limestone which shines white when the sun hits them. All very old now and not maintained as they used to be and so many in danger of collapsing or going more wobbly at least.
the main two taken on my 5day trip just over a week ago now. Maybe our last trip of the year! (although we have several more booked.)

Cheers. Herb

Hello Eva. Very nice to see you here again as I know that Peru has initiated draconian measures against the Coved19 virus. We managed to a nice local country walk today but I think these walks are now numbered.

Keep safe, your friend, Herbert

They are really trying to do their best. Now there is a rumor that the isolation will be prolonged. That will be terrible hard for many of the people that even now are already out of work. Take as many walks as you can now!
And keep well!!!
