Chew reservoir dam

Chew reservoir dam
A wintry view of this dam. You can just see my upwards path climbing up to the top right. This lonely wild place has actually got real history. Built between 1907-1912 as a 'header' reservoir for several other drinking reservoirs, as documented here by my late photo friend Geoff Hurst: www.doveheritage.com/completion-of-chew-reservoir

The PiP shows the top of the reservoir in 2016.

A bleak, but strangely beautiful scene Herb. Nicely composed and exposed well for the snow. I especially like the fence tucked away in the "V" shape between the two slopes. The roof of the building top right breaks up the horizon perfectly.

A super shot in the PiP as well (which I commented on when your first posted it).

As you say Keith, its well bleak up here -and mostly cold too. I also agree that it has a strange natural beauty. I did wonder about this being a HFF shot too with that fence :) The top building is the top of the inspection shaft that all these reservoirs have into the water on the reservoir side itself. Glad you still enjoyed the PiP.

Sorry to hear you lost your friend Herb. Thanks for the link. I like the bleakness of the main shot but love the blues in the PiP. Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks Rosa. I came across Geoff as he was researching for this massive documentary work and indeed there are a couple of my photos in there too. We communicated for a year or two via email but I never actually met him. Coincidentally my wife Eileen and I walked to the 'Swineshaw' reservoirs mentioned on the link pages today. I never know untill posting this and re-reading the history of Chew res that the area visited today was called Swineshaw. Glad you liked all this and the PiP too.
