Welcome! As an amateur painter too, I always take it as a compliment when one of my viewers liken my photos as a painting. It demonstrates a certain artistic imaginative flair added to reality to convey a feeling. In practice, I did not do anything special to this photo other than process it as a three photo HDR and crop it.

Lovely warm and muted colours and especially the reflections look like an impressionistic painting. I like that you have given them plenty of room.

Nice to see you again Gudrun. Glad you liked this photo with overtones of a painting. You yourself will have stood sometimes looking at a heavenly vista and said to yourself -this looks just like a painting. Sometimes nature is like that. I have now included the PiP showing the alternative landscape view taken from almost the same place at the same time but definitely another set of three photos to make up a HDR composition. The single originals although conveying the same scene have not captured the real feeling of light that I saw there. The lake mirror indeed gives room on the 'canvas' :)

Both these images are absolutely wonderful Herb............and I have to agree with the others that they have a real painterly feel to them, in particular the light and reflections are just amazing.

The autumnal colours are really lovely.........your HDR processing is so subtle that it's not immediately recognisable as such........which is just how it should be!

Thanks Keith - I know that you commented on the original set of these photos too last October. It was the light in the far trees and their reflections that really transfixed me here. - Glad you liked my HDR processing - I normally use that as close as natural as possible and I find it invaluable for evening out shadows and strong highlights.

Just out of interest Herb - what HDR software do you use?

I use Photomatix 6.1.1. I have tried others but like this the best as it lets me blend in the final HDR process with any of my normal three exposures. In that: I shoot three photos at 2 stops differences (-2,0,+2) in RAW, then pass them on to Photomatix in 16bit TIFF before outputting in JPG. I then take a look at final processing in my PaintShopPro X8. Hope this helps.

Thanks Herb............I used to use Photomatix years ago...........and produced some really awful, over-the-top images. I eventually gave up on HDR altogether. I may have to give it another go!

Very peaceful moment and photograph, Herb.

It was a great moment but real peace was absent due to many children passing by, because of a special Halloween day's activity on the paths. Coloured lights and weird chilling calls etc.
