Kylemore Abbey

Admire with me this most beautiful Abbey. Set in its own private grounds that are open to the public. The abbey is still in use today. - I believe this view is even more stunning with flat mirror waters but that was asking a bit to much.

Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. The abbey was founded for Benedictine Nuns who fled Belgium in World War I. - The castle itself was built in the late 1800's by Mitchell Henry MP and has a beautiful Victorian Walled Garden.

Ah Daniela, it is nice that we have actually shared some of the same photographic spots together. We wanted to go into the gardens on one day but it was dark and raining heavily and so the idea was abandoned. This shot was taken whilst on route to the famous '12 Pins' drive. Such a pity that you did not have a digital camera in those days, perhaps you can still scan one of your paper photographs.

Thanks Sarah, yes as you say, a must, for full size viewing. Unfortunately with the ease of screen printing I found previously that a lot of my photo's were appearing all over the world in advertising without my consent nor an acknowledgement to me as the owner, hence the need for a watermark type signature that is a bit of a put-off for some. - I would imagine in the old days it was very cold but now they would have small rooms with a cosy fire perhaps :)

I rather doubt that Leopold. I think only the gardens are open to the public as this is a working Abbey with holy orders. Glad you liked it.
