Hi Peter, I am tempted to say 'yes indeed I used my Lee filters which I had with me' but in reality this is another of my hdr's which is so perfect for this kind of scene as long as it is applied with care and deference to the real landscape and sky. My new Tokina 11-16 tends to over expose the big skies somewhat and so must be compensated for somehow. HDR is the answer here. Ironically I tend to find the results using my grad filters looking a bit artificial :) Glad you liked it all the same.

The sky in this image is just superb..............but it's definitely the fence and your composition that makes it an absolutely cracking shot! I love the way it starts in the bottom left corner, runs up to the "third" on the upper right and disappears - then reappears before exiting stage right..!! It's an HDR image too, but not at all "overcooked" just very subtle, which is how it should be :-)

Hi Kieth and I read another well composed breakdown of my work here from you. As you know by now, I always consider my composition very much, walking around slowly, making little rectangular frames with my fingers and closing one eye. Once I have seen the picture I want, I start to look at the light and shadows. Many times the only satisfying way to display what I saw is by using the much wider dynamic light range of HDR software. At times I take one shot, look at it and if I am not satisfied with the overall exposure I then take three photos in RAW at two stops apart -very quickly :) Generally, I don't let that software get in the way of my own artistry but at times I can see why people get tempted. - Thanks for another 'fence of the week' from you my friend.

Beautiful fence and the HDR treatment is subtle indeed, but I'm also intrigued by that soft shadow border ... that's part of your photo, right, not some new, snazzy ipernity function (haha, as if ..!)

Very happy that you like the photo Sarah. Its been a while since anybody remarked on one of my borders. Unfortunately for you, it is not the latest Ipernity add-on, its there by cutesy of my photo editing software (Paint Shop Pro 18) which allows me to tailor-make such things. For years in the old photo-site of Panoramio I used to display all my photos with a border of sorts but that fashion is now almost gone. Cheers.
