Sunbathing Terrapins

Sunbathing Terrapins
Spotted taking in the sunshine, in the waters of Petersfield Heath Pond. They are not native to the UK, but sadly, are often kept as pets indoors in glass tanks.

These are most likely pets which grew too large for their tanks and so were dumped into the pond. I've spotted them in the pond, before, but this is the first time I've seen more than one at the same time.

Colin Ashcroft, trester88, Leo W, Xata and 19 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thanks Güni................I'm pleased you like this one. It's sad that they are dumped, but in one way it's fortunate they can survive........and it's better than being left in a small glass tank..!!

Have a lovely evening...........

Energie tanken in der Sonne. Da war das Bad im Wasser zu kalt. Interessante Fundstücke, aufgereiht wie in einem Regal. Feine Details und die Krötenzeichnung erkennt man in der Vergrösserung. Toller Fokus, Keith.

Fantastic! At first sight in the thumbnai I was reminded of a crocodile, then I had a closer look at the "bumps" on its back;-)
We have the same problem with dumped pets, they have formed quite a few colonies in lakes by now.

Thanks for your visit a kind comments Gudrun..............I'm really glad it wasn't a crocodile :-))

I suppose the way to look at it is at least they're not still in a small glass tank!

Well if they are at home there, then better than a glass box in somebodies house. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy the week. Herb

I love this +++++++
Sometimes here some escape or decide to move to another spot and unfortunately cross the road... I saved a few through the last years, take them back to a river bank, many people here do the same.

Offenbar fühlen sie sich wohl dort. Solange sie keinen Schaden anrichten, sollten sie dort weiter leben. Eine interessanter Fund, Keith!
