The Beacon

This folly, built in 1830 in the style of an Ionic temple, is located in the grounds of Leigh Park Gardens (also known at the Sir George Staunton Country Park), which is a five minute drive from my house and a lovely place for a walk. I've no idea why it is called the Beacon or indeed, what purpose it was built for.
Edit 29th May: www.stauntoncp.co.uk/en/page/5077 Many thanks to Mikus for finding this link for me.
It seems that it was called the Beacon because the owner of the park at the time used to fly a flag on the top of it when he was in residence :-))
