Fox and Cubs

Fox and cubs, Pilosella aurantiaca, is so-called because of the appearance of the open flowers (the fox) alongside the flower buds (the cubs).
Strictly speaking they are weeds, and although they are beautiful, they also spread like crazy if they are not controlled, so we only allow a few in the garden. This one was pulled up and photographed indoors before going in the compost bin.

Keith Burton club has replied to TOZ clubThere are plenty more still growing in the garden, but you have to pull some of them up before they go to seed, otherwise they'll spread too much.
Keith Burton club has replied to raingirl clubI took the flower indoors to photograph it............the background is a sheet of card I bought in a craft shop.

Keith Burton club has replied to Herb Riddle clubKeith Burton club has replied to Xata clubWe do have the occasional poultry eating kind of fox visiting our garden. It gets in, even though I have 6ft high fences all around..!! I only know it's been there from the fox poo left on the grass, which our dog (when it was alive) used to love rolling in..!!

The flowers are lovely with a great colour combination and the well chosen background helps the image so much,
