Crocosmia on Black

Crocosmia on Black
Taken in my garden using a piece of black card to hide the untidy background. I staked this stem to prevent it moving and used a tripod for the shot. I then tidied up the black background in post processing.

No Crocosmia were harmed in taking this photo.

Just noticed the date you took this Keith. I was thinking you had a great micro climate down there! The black background works so well with the colour and shape of the flower. Such a good sharp image. I will try a few indoor shots in spring. I love the ones you take, so I'm taking notes :-))

Ha, ha.........I don't have too many recent shots Rosa due to our lovely English weather :-))

Glad you like this one though......and thank you. I read an article in Outdoor Photography magazine a while ago about staking flowers to stop them moving and using card as a background, so I thought I'd give it a go. I didn't want to cut the flower and take it indoors.

Tabletop photography is definitely worth experimenting with..........quite apart from anything else, you can have a cuppa at the same time! I'm looking forward to seeing your photos in due course.

I didn't fully understand that Keith, so thanks for explaining. What a good idea. I've just been looking through some photography mags that I've had since 2012....I'm understanding them more now :)

Thanks Herb...........I've got quite a large clump of these in my garden, but they get overshadowed by the fence, so I'm going to try moving them when it's drier.

Glad you like the shot.

What a brilliant idea Keith. There must be a very similar looking plant that I have in my garden, we call it Mombretia and the flower is rampant in the garden - it's like having an orange carpet sometimes. I will try the idea of a coloured card behind some flowers to take a picture - wonderful idea that.
