Look what the wind blew in

Look what the wind blew in
This time of year, late October, this bird should not be anywhere near here. Normally she'd be four or five thousand km south of here. "Here" in this case is in Ganny Cove in Newfoundland.

Until recent years I *never* heard of a Baltimore oriole in these parts, any time of year.

But what do I know? In the past couple of years I have had them show up in my garden twice.

I can't remember what the weather had been in 2022, but the past few weeks we had some strong southerly winds. This poor oriole was not the only bird to get carried north to here. She may thrive . . . who knows?

Lovely picture. Hope he/she survives. Perhaps escaping the US election frenzy ...
