With an aura of mystery - HBM

This so-called ‘Temple of Janus’, probably built during the reign of Augustus (1st century BC), is the remains of a Gallic sanctuary: a fanum (Romano-Celtic temple) dedicated to an unknown divinity (the attribution to Janus probably referring to the Jenetoy district where it is located). It consists of a cella (hall of worship), a kind of square tower, around 24 m high and 16 m square, once covered, of which only two sections remain today. The niche that remains housed the statue of the deity.

AVEC UNE AURA DE MYSTÈRE. Ce temple dit "de Janus", construit vraisemblablement sous le règne d’Auguste (1er s. av. JC), est le vestige d’un sanctuaire gaulois : un fanum dédié à une divinité inconnue (l’attribution à Janus faisant probablement référence au quartier Jenetoy ou il est situé). Il est composé d’une cella (salle de culte), sorte de tour de plan carré, d’environ 24 m de haut sur 16 m de côté, autrefois couverte, dont il ne reste aujourd’hui que deux pans. La niche qui subsiste accueillait la statue de la divinité.

MIT EINER AURA DES GEHEIMNISVOLLEN. Dieser sog. "Janustempel", der wahrscheinlich unter der Herrschaft von Augustus (1. Jh. v. Chr.) erbaut wurde, ist der Überrest eines gallischen Heiligtums: ein gallo-römischer Umgangstempel, der einer unbekannten Gottheit gewidmet war (die Zuordnung zu Janus bezieht sich wahrscheinlich auf das Jenetoy-Viertel, in dem er sich befindet). Es besteht aus einer Cella (Kulthalle), einer Art Turm mit quadratischem Grundriss, etwa 24 m hoch und 16 m lang, der früher überdacht war und von dem heute nur noch zwei Teile erhalten sind. In der noch erhaltenen Nische befand sich die Statue der Gottheit.
