Behind wall et fence - HFF

The Romanesque church of Saint Cénéri with its clock tower arches was built in the 11th century on a rocky promontory above the Sarthe. The frescoes inside date from the 12th and 14th centuries. In part, they are in such good condition because they were covered in plaster in 1650, only to be rediscovered 200 years later!

DERRIÈRE LE MUR ET LA CLÔTURE.L'église romane de Saint Cénéri avec ses arches de la tour de l'horloge est construite au XIe siècle sur un promontoire rocheux au-dessus de la Sarthe. Les fresques à l'intérieur datent des XIIe et XIVe siècles. En partie, elles sont en si bon état parce qu'elles ont été recouvertes de plâtre en 1650 pour être redécouvertes 200 ans plus tard !

HINTER MAUER UND ZAUN. Die romanische Kirche Saint Cénéri mit den Bögen des Uhrenturms wurde im 11. Jahrhundert auf einem Felsvorsprung über dem Fluss Sarthe errichtet. Die Fresken im Inneren stammen aus dem 12. und 14. Jahrhundert. Teilweise sind sie nur deshalb so gut erhalten, weil sie 1650 verputzt wurden, um 200 Jahre später wiederentdeckt zu werden!
